I have a X748 Diesel lawn tractor that has been in and out of the shop for four years and can not be fixed according to the dealer and the John Deere factory. If you mow more than an hour or two it over heats and the blade turns off. Normanly does this when the temperature is 90 deg or hotter. It will actually boil over sometimes. The dealer assured me that John Deere would get it fixed but they can't.
I have now finally said I want it replaced. John Deere offered me $250.00 towards the price of a new one that does not do this because they have made a design change. I think this is an insult.
John Deere X748 Tractor
Has anyone had any luck pursuing John Deere on something like this? I have a X748 Diesel lawn tractor that has been in and out of the shop for four years and can not be fixed according to the dealer and the John Deere factory.

I think this is an insult. Has anyone had any luck pursuing John Deere on something like this? Thanks What have they done to fix it?
I just turned 1000 hours on mine, and have mowed 7 acres with it for 7 years. It was 5 or 6 hours non-stop. The only time it starts to get hot is if the screens are dirty. The design change was redesigning the hood to draw air in differently to keep the screens cleaner. I started blowing mine off with a leaf blower after every mowing, paying particular attention to the radiator. Before that, fine stuff would slip past the screen and make it run hotter between screen cleanings.
I have an X495 with almost 3900 hours on the motor. I run my tractor around 30 hours a week for my grass cutting business and I found if you blow out screens every day or if the grass is realty dry I do it more.
I pressure wash the rad about once a month to get all the dust out the fins. I found if the outside temp. Is in the low 30 C or higher I take the hood off, and it make the engine run a lot cooler. Doing this I have never had the PTO shut off. Hope this helps. Here is the deal with John Deere: I had an x728se that had engine surging issues.
Took my dealer 3 months to repair it, and if they would have done what I told them the day I took it in, it would have been repaired in 3 days. Anyway, you just have to let john Deere and your dealer try one thing at a time per john deere's tech manuals (dtech I think). Turns out on my unit they almost replaced the entire engine before finding the problem.
So my advice, is tell them To keep it until they get it fixed. The bill for John Deere from the dealer was crazy, but they repaired it. I know have an x748se, and trust me, it will be repaired to my liking or they will keep it. Also, call john Deere and log a case with them.
