I started out loving my Artic Cat. Fast as I wanted, sporty ride, plenty of power, get up and go.

Then things went to crap. Oil pump gear at 4000 miles had worn on the shaft and wobbled enough that it caught on the centrifugal clutch. Tore the oil pump off and tore the clutch to pieces.
Problem is that the oil pump shaft is not all that big. The gear that goes on it is not very wide and slides on with a fairly loose fit. If that in and of itself is not bad enough, they us a slide pin in the shaft to make the connection to the gear which means there are key opposing key slots in the gear which further reduces the gear to shaft contact further.
On mine the gear had worn the shaft to where the shaft looked more like a ball joint where the gear sat on it. I fixed this all only to have the connecting rod start to seize up on the engine crankshaft. I victim of the oil pump failure I believe. So I had my dealer do a complete overhaul, new crank, connecting rod, piston, and cylinder. My next failure was the one way clutch that supposedly causes the engine braking. I was out in the field, left my 4-wheeler in gear while I got off for a moment, and the 4-wheeler left me, going down the field on it's own. The sprag had grabbed and scored.
Again I think as a result of the oil pump failure. I took the one way clutch out and can not tell the difference in engine braking. Also just before the one-way clutch went out, the transmission belt started slipping. Oil was getting into the belt case. I have torn this apart three times and have not been successful in stopping the oil leak. I now have a seal/bearing kit.

And this is the last time I am tearing it apart. Rival rice cooker manual. After this time I will just give up on it. Unless Artic Cat can prove to me they have changed their oil pump design I will not own another A/C. I am sorry, but the mile put on my pickup are cheaper than these have been.
