As the Civil War ended in 1865, Thomas J Howe joined with Michael Lowth and began manufacturing grain-drills and seeders in Owatonna, Minnesota. This led to the creation of Owatonna Manufacturing Company (OMC) in 1888. This marked the 50th year for the Mustang Skid Steer.
The second company to develop and manufacture Skid Steers, OMC embraced the machines. They dove into the market in 1965 with the introduction of the Mustang branded Series 1000. Trilogy bipap cost. A robust, 30hp machine that was one of the most powerful and versatile of its kind in the 1960’s. In fact an operational example, one of the original 25 (number 18) is on display at the Owatonna Village of Yesteryear. Mustang employees heard of the existence of this 40+ year old machine and proceeded to raise the funds to purchase it.
With only 339 hours on it, it still wore its original tires, paint and decals. Seeing the passion the employees felt for the product they built and the Brand they worked for, General Manager Randy Vargason saw to it that the Series 1000 was purchased and restored by the Company. Some new paint, tires, a seat and hose replacements were all that were needed to bring it back to nearly new and fully functional status.
A testament to the quality and endurance of these skid steers. Now owned by Manitou Americas Inc., Mustang Manufacturing Co. Was purchased by Gehl in 1998 and then those two companies were acquired by Manitou of France in 2008.
